Holocaust Remembrance

Chana and Avraham were both born in Poland and lived together in Tomasev Lubelski with their children, Mayer, Hinda and baby Saul. They had a wholesale Grocery in the town in partnership with Avraham’s brother.  Chana came from a big family with many siblings and she was one of the youngest ones

When the town was taken over by the Nazis, it would change hand almost on a weekly basis from German control to Russian.  When it was under Russian control, the Luden family left with the Russian army to go to Siberia to a work camp.  There, Saul died of sickness and starvation.  He was buried on the side of the road as Chana and Abraham tried to get medical help for him.  Chana was devastated, but had to take care of the family.  She made vodka and traded it for food from the Russian soldiers.

They survived, and after the war were in a DP camp in Bamberg, Germany for almost 5 years before coming to America.
